Course Description:
English 151, 152, 153 is a multilevel (repeatable) course to explore and practice the elements of craft in selected literary forms through the development and discussion of the student's own expressive writing and the study of professional models.

In this class we will spend the first two weeks working on fiction, and the next two weeks working on poetry. After that, students will be free to concentrate on one genre or to experiment with both. We will be studying these pieces not only for pleasure, but also for techniques and ideas to use in our own work to practice the strategies and techniques of one or more expressive literary forms; to have students read and respond to each other’s work in workshop and small group formats; to have students produce a body of work by writing on a regular basis; and to help students become aware of ways to go about submitting their work for possible publication.
